BYV: For 80 years the IPA pushed free-market ideology through the Liberal Party and shaped Australian policy in ways that served the wealthy few. Now it has found a more useful vehicle.
IPA appear to have signaled that they will put 'a dollar each way' on ONP as well as LNP.
They support their usual LNP's more overtly imperialist Neoliberal form. But now they also support ONP's very similar policy and preferences of imperialist Neoliberalism, but with their more overt racist populism rhetoric.
I guess they'll try playing good cop, bad cop game with voters, to pretend to voters that the substantively similar parties are different, in order to capture as many mentally lazy voters who hate what Neoliberalism has created over the past half a century, but are still unaware either that it is the problem (or that ONP is also Neoliberalism). Probably many of Australia's voters still have not seriously considered imperialism's consequences, so likely plenty will continue to mostly blindly support the ALP's idiotic military gamble of our foreign & military policy almost entirely being placed in the untrustworthy hands of the USA & UK (even to the point of supporting Israel gen0c1de).
Couldn’t agree more. PHON is using Trump playbook in full - pick off the uninformed, disinterested and disenfranchised mob, bit by bit and then sucker them in with a vague promise of a brighter future with populist rhetoric. It’s more sizzle than sausage. But the target of this essay won’t be reading quality alternative content like this.
The puzzling thing for me is how so many people, thinking themselves disenfranchised by current conservative government, believe aligning themselves further to the right will somehow alleviate their position.
I don’t think we can afford the luxury of just keeping an eye on One Nation and the financial and human resources that are being funnelled into it from Advance, Gina and the ATLAS Network. We have to get super-organised ASAP and respond in kind with a viable alternative offering. Our association, Northside Community Voices, with assistance from Sue Barrett, is preparing a proposal to put to CIP (Community Independents Project) for the formation of a mosaic of Voices groups and Independent members/candidates. The two groups, separated by legal and funding “Chinese Walls” will be aligned to a common purpose and agreed set of “Must Have” values that will allow “Values alignment without Uniformity and Coordination without Control”. Please have look online http://www.ncvoices.org.au/policies/australian-independents-mosaic/proposal/ If you are interested in having a say in this process, please contact me at president@ncvoices.org.au

“The IPA’s argument is that One Nation now represents mainstream Australian values…”
That is concerning, but not yet threatening. It’s one to keep an eye on.
If PHON represents mainstream Australian values, Australia has extremely low values.

Talk about jumping out of the pan...
100%! Critical thinking is fast becoming a rare commodity

Hi, David. I might have been a bit vague with my comment.
Knowing that Murdoch is involved with the IPA, I should have clarified that it’s the Murdoch media I want to keep an eye on.
I was rushed. 😁
I didn't see it in the essay so the IPA page with the article is here: https://ipa.org.au/latest-news/critics-of-one-nation-fringe-are-wrong-its-the-only-mainstream-party
Apologies if I missed the link elsewhere
