"....For instance, at another pre-poll booth on Saturday, one Liberal Party volunteer shared their private concerns about this type of behaviour with another group’s volunteer saying ‘It’s too much, isn’t it?’ Yes it is. But they were too frightened to call it out themselves for fear of retaliation...."
This is bad, however, what's worse is the swapping to t-shirts (off with a blue one and on with an alternative that they somehow think excuses the behaviour you've highlighted). It's outrageous!
Excellent observations & recommendations. Its been ok where I've been - so far - in Bradfield but I can only agree re the broader environment. The entitled are lashing back in ugly ways.
Sue you address so many of my concerns before I have fully articulated my ideas. Thank you so much. This recent election campaign was concerning for multiple reasons, many of which you address here & in other pieces. I’m greedy for more of your thoughtful posts. Keep up your important work.
Thank you for this. I have been creating a dossier on what happened this election and have some very interesting observations and findings I am looking to share when the time is right.
So much work to be done but some very clear initiatives we can get into play.
I wanted to complete my own tiny record of experiences to send in. Maybe they would go to your dossier. I hope so. It is hard to convey the essence of some experiences- a couple of specific events which may look like overreactions if cited out of context. And lots of tiny details which together built a gratuitously unpleasant atmosphere yet could be misunderstood/ downplayed as hyper vigilance. You handle difficult material very well indeed if I may say so.
Certainly the issues continue to be at the centre of local voters’ attention eg the social event I attended yesterday. Passionately discussion from wise, sensible people.
This is great, Sue. My head is reeling at the meteoric rise in hate, contempt, overt insult, conscious lying, bullying, mobbing, demonisation, closed-mindedness, over-simplification, polarisation and incitement I have seen during pre-poll this week. Your article helps. I'd like to talk about this.
A great piece Sue!

Hi Robyn,

Onward we press

Hi Robyn, please feel free to share with me.
Let's find a way to connect privately first.
Excellent stuff! Thanks.
